Goldfish

A gold fish swims up brightly
carrying a bubble to the surface
like a thought he has found
somewhere on the bottom

a pearl of air
that is meaningless when
returned to the atmosphere

I watch him swim
softly back into the darkness
as clouds coalesce
within or on
my face of water.

I don't know which.
