Risking the Gauntlet of Robins
Green inch worms descendfrom the canopy on a threadto leaf litter where theywildly throw themselves around
as if panicked for directionyet are rooted on four rear feetto then scrunch forwardin some bewildering quest.
After a few days -- a gossamerof colors nick the pine needles
colors that startle youlike Van Gogh's prisoner in the paintingwere he to look up, instead of justgoing round and round shackledto his orbit of gloom, look up the towerto a few bricks near the windowthat refract beams into a rainbow --
Unseen beneficence, lightawaiting the evolution of eyes.
