Carmine Giordano

Annunciation

Today,
most holy St. Theresa
of the Seven Wounds of Jesus
gave up the long-life
neon crown
she’d worn forever
suspended among the Cherubim
in the cathedral cupola.

She claimed
she could not sleep
because of it
and that she was tired
of being stigmatose.

She said
that menstruation
was enough of bleeding
and that her body ached
from her heavenly
posture pose.

She appeared before the press
in midnight blue.
Her nails were all magenta.
Her skin was moist.
Her lips were glossed,
ready.
