Presidio Chapel, San Francisco
Back up the hill
Forever safe
From the brassy
Bustle of buy and sell
Some shrined on brass
Plaques on chapel walls
Some left outside
In even rows on white stones
Ringed by a green arc
Of Eucalyptus trees
The names fading into braille
The violent colors of battle
Only notations in a book now
I wander among them
To revive my life
Brighten a faded honor
Looking toward the bay
Dotted with boats
I see the old days still
Grizzlies lumbering near
Water's edge, an air-
Borne tide of birds
All of these buildings
Nowhere to be found.
